BCI products & services

Continuity Magazine – I previously mailed you on 14th August (see attached) to ask you to send an electronic copy of our new magazine to your members. Lynn has responded but, as yet, I haven’t heard from IRM or AIRMIC. We have just gone to press with the magazine which (even if I do say so myself) is fabulous – 52 pages, full colour, great features etc. I do hope that you think your members would like to see a copy.

BCI Workshops – we have 2 workshops planned before the end of the year – one on 21st November on the recent flooding and a Financial one on 11th December. I attach a copy of the Flooding Workshop brochure – we would be pleased to extend BCI member prices to your members too.

If you were able to include something along the following lines when you next email your members it would be much appreciated:

21st November 2007.  BCI Flooding Workshop - the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull.
The prediction is that severe weather events will increase in frequency and the conditions that led to the severe disruption in parts of the UK, due to flooding, during the “summer” of 2007 will become more common.  So how did the flooding affect the UK business community; and can we learn lessons that will improve the effectiveness of our continuity plans and risk assessments?

The BCI Flooding Workshop will explore and capture the lessons to be learnt, in BCM and Risk terms, from the disruption that resulted from the flooding that occurred in the UK during June and July.  The format of the event will be a mix of brief presentations, including a number of case studies, and group discussions designed to encourage the sharing of experience and ideas amongst the participants. Speakers include;

  • Steve Barnes, Severe Weather Officer, Civil Contingencies Secretariat
  • Colin Berghouse, Project Manager, The Environment Agency
  • Keith Bradley, Emergency Planning Officer, Sheffield City Council
  • Eddie Coventry, Head of Emergency Management Service, Gloucestershire County Council
  • Jim Smith, Resilience Programme Manager, Severn Trent Water

… plus representatives from the Federation of Small Businesses and the insurance sector …

… and case studies from The Chelsea Building Society, Sainsbury’s, Irwin Mitchell and Belfor Relectronic.

Throughout the programme there will be discussion exercises to ensure that we capture and document the lessons learned, and frequent opportunities for networking with the speakers and fellow delegates.

A full programme and booking form can be found at http://www.thebci.org/FloodingWorkshop.pdf

BCI and Risk Federation members pay £295 saving £100 on the published price of £395.
